Dream Eaters
Dream Eaters are the denizens of the realm of dreams. They take the forms of multi-colored animals and are divided into two types: Spirits and Nightmares.
Nightmares
Nightmares are wild, destructive Dream Eaters who feed on good dreams and create bad ones. They are easily identifiable by their red eyes and will attack your character on sight. Luckily, though they will attack en masse, they don't have the capability to strategize.
Nightmares, when killed, will drop munny, dream pieces, and the occasional treat or training toy.
Spirits
Spirits, by contrast, are friendly Dream Eaters who feed on nightmares and create good dreams. Spirits will be faithful and loyal companions to your characters, fighting alongside them and offering companionship and love. It's rather like having a multicolored and highly capable pet.
Treats and Training Toys
If you want to train your Spirit or just make it happy, you can obtain treats and training toys either from defeated Nightmares or from Moogles. Treats include cookies, chocolate, and ice cream - turns out Spirits are inordinately fond of sweet stuff.
Training toys include treasure goggles, which help your Spirits find hidden items around you; balloons, a game in which you volley balloons back and forth with your Spirits; and the water barrel, an underwater game you and your Spirits play for treasure.
Synthesis
You can synthesize your own Dream Eaters by having the correct dream pieces. The first few dream pieces - enough to make one Spirit - will be given to you by Moogles in your welcome pack. You can choose from one of four spirits to make: Meow Wow, Komory Bat, Hebby Repp, or Pricklemane. You can collect other dream pieces by defeating Nightmares in combat or by buying them from Moogles (having earned the munny by working for NPCs or picking it up from combat - yes, Nightmares drop munny too). As the game progresses, you will be able to synthesize rarer and more powerful Spirits; however, the dream pieces will also be rarer and may only be obtainable via special events or in hard-to-reach locations, both of which will be detailed in OOC announcements.
You will need mod permission to synthesize a new Spirit. To obtain it, comment to this post with the Spirit you wish to synthesize and the method your character used to obtain the pieces. More common pieces, such as Figments, can be handwaved via offscreen combat or work with NPCs; rarer pieces, such as Fantasies, must have been explicitly earned. Please request only one Spirit at a time.
If this is your character's first Spirit - i.e. if you've only just picked up the character - comment below with the Spirit you want them to start with. For a first Spirit, your choices are limited to four: Hebby Repp, Pricklemane, Meow Wow, and Komory Bat.
At the moment, you can handwave picking up Figments (small, easy to earn dream pieces) via combat with Nightmares or buying them from a Moogle. As a rule, you can earn one Figment for every five Nightmares you fight or enough munny to buy one every two or three days of work for NPCs. Fancies (rarer and more powerful than Figments) can only be obtained via events or random drops determined via mod dice roll; if you receive a drop, the mod journal will leave a comment in your battle log, if there is one. Fantasies (extremely rare and powerful dream pieces) are even rarer than Fancies, though they can be obtained in a similar fashion. Check this page as the game progresses, as this information will change.
Your character will have a Fancy if they participated in:
- The Post Office battle
- The Hockomonkey boss fight
- The Twilight Town mansion exploration
- The Queen Buzzerfly boss fight
- The zero gravity battle
- The Meta boss fight (dropped by Commantis)
Your character will have a Fantasy if they participated in:
- The Meta boss fight (dropped by the Meta)
Yes, your character may trade dream pieces with other characters; however, it’s likely only a Moogle can tell you which pieces you need to create a specific Spirit.
You may only have two Spirits with you at a time. The others simply disappear into the ether. It's unclear where exactly they are; however, they'll be there the moment you need them.
